Baboró International Arts Festival

During the Baboró festival each class goes to a different performance around the city. Baboró workshops often visit the school during the festival too.

Dress-Up Day

Just before the Midterm Break in October of each year, we have Dress-Up Day. On this day the children dress up in a character of their choice.

Christmas Carol Service

The Christmas Service takes place in St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on the Friday following December 6th (St. Nicholas’ Day).

This is a very special service where the children tell the story of Christmas, with lots of Christmas Carols sung in unison and harmony.

Christmas Party

On the day before the Christmas holidays, each class gets to watch a Christmas movie, followed by a party, followed by the arrival of……Santa Claus!

Teddy Bear Hospital

This event is organised by the Sláinte Society, the NUI Galway branch of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations every year.

The children in Junior and Senior Infants go to the Teddy Bears Hospital at NUIG with their teddy bears where their teddies are checked out by the doctors. In the process, they hope to help children feel more comfortable around doctors and hospitals.

Pancake Day

On Pancake Tuesday each year some parents serve pancakes in the school hall. The children bring in €2 for a local charity and each class goes to the hall where the parents serve up pancakes.

World Book Day

During World Book Week each class goes to Dubray Bookshop on Shop Street with their teacher, where they listen to stories and chat about books. Afterwards everyone gets to swap their book token for a book!

Lá Glas

Lá Glas takes place in March every year as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. For Lá Glas the children dress in green, white and gold. There are also lots of activities going on throughout this week such as Irish dancing, a Céile Mór and a whole school Tráth na gCeist as Gaeilge.

Active Week

Active Week takes place during the last week in May and usually coincides with the City Sports Day in Dangan which many of our pupils participate in.

During Active Week we have activities such as Zumba, Hip Hop Dancing, Soccer Skills, GAA skills, Tag rugby and Yoga.

Our school Sports Day is always held during Active Week.

Sports Day

Sports Day takes place at The Plots on Dyke Road, within short walking distance of the school.

 School Tours

School Tours take place each year in the Summer Term.

The senior classes also travel to Villiers Secondary School Sports Day in Limerick each Summer term where they take part in activities such as basketball, football, tag rugby and orienteering.

Hockey

Hockey takes place every Friday after school at NUIG sports ground in Dangan with Sandra. Children in First Class upwards can participate. The school often plays matches against other teams and at the end of each school year there is a Parents v Children’s hockey match.

Swimming

The children go swimming every Wednesday to Leisureland.

At the end of the school year there is a swimming gala (where everyone is a winner!), followed by fun and games in the play area.

Summer Service

We finish each school year with a Summer Service. At this service the 6th Class are presented with certificates to celebrate their time in St. Nicholas’ Parochial School.
